Jim Clark on Jan 1st 1968 at Kyalami how we
use to remember him leading a race, but Kyalami was a special one:
January 1968 at Kyalami Jim won his last race in a Lotus 49 that counted
towards the F1 World Championship. At Kyalami Jim Clark overtook Juan Manuel
Fangio in regard to race wins (F1) by one race: Jim scored his 25th victory,
Fangio had 24. Kyalami was the last F1 race where Team Lotus used the
classical green/yellow livery for their Formula Lotus cars, after that the
commercial era in F1 began. So with Jim Clark gone also an era ended and was
gone.
Jim Clark: a review of his overall performance in all cars by date:
First of all I have to express my thanks to
Graham Gauld, who kindly gave permission to me to publish all detailed race infos and results you
will find below. The complete race performance list is based on his book "Jim Clark
Remembered", written by Graham Gauld and was released with its first
edition in 1975. Graham was Jim Clark`s personal biographer thus very close to Jim and also helped
Jim to write his own book end of 1964 "Jim Clark at the Wheel".
Jim Clark`s overall performance well over 13
years from 1956 to his final fatal race in April 1968 is more than
impressing. There needs no further comments if you go through the list. Jim
drove stunning 447 official races in 36 different car types. He began with
his own private Sunbeam MK 3 in 1956 and worked his way up through the
British racing ladder, racing Porsche`s, Jaguars, Aston Martin`s, Sports
Cars of Lotus, Saloons - the Lotus Cortina is legendary in Clark`s hands,
Prototypes and any kind of Open Wheel Cars even Indy Cars! He participated
at many US races and did the Indy 500 for five times.
So all I can say when editing this list I was baffled, absolutely stunning!
Enjoy his race results as well.
